One is a streetwear pioneer who transformed a humble t-shirt label into a highlight of the Paris schedule, the other is a master of hybridisation who has garnered a cult following of similar proportions; both are at the vanguard of Japanese fashion. Chitose Abe and Jun Takahashi are the respective founders of sacai and UNDERCOVER and at Tokyo Fashion Week they joined forces to put on a show. Alongside specially-created collaborative pieces revealed at Meiji’s Memorial Picture Gallery, both brands showed their SS18 collections in order to juxtapose their different visions. The twins we first witnessed at UNDERCOVER’s Paris show re-emerged in their Cindy Sherman t-shirts, while sacai’s twisted femininity took centre-stage.
