You’re running down Varrick, through the construction just to get into line for your third show of the day. But wait, no, it can’t be… Kim Kardashian is standing right in front of you. What is she doing here? You take a cool, caluculated breath and run up to try and snag a selfie, she turns around before you can say “Skims.” And, to your dismay, it is definitely not the real Kim K.

How can this be? Well, in the midst of NYFW, artists Ida JonssonSimon Saarinen, and Beate Karlsson have presented a wearable replica of Kim Kardashian’s butt. Butt why? According to Simon, “Kim Kardashian is the poster child of the clickbait era, and her butt is a driving force behind the attention economy. This piece redistributes attention by offering the wearer a fair chance of getting their 15 minutes.”

A part of a much bigger project called “The Bum,” which Ida and Simon started over a year ago, this particular work speaks to modern society’s fascination with exaggerated proportions, and the lengths one may go to in order to achieve it. Whether you like it or not, there’s no doubt that this replica takes the cake.
